Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris born October 20, 1964) is an American politician and lawyer who is currently the 49th vice-president of the United States. She is the first female vice-president and the highest-ranking female politician in U.S history. She is a senator and former US senator representing California. Harris was born and raised in Oakland, California. Her professional career started in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected the city's district attorney. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in the year 2010. In 2014, she won re-election. Harris was the United States junior senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris beat Loretta Martinez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the second African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. As Senator, Harris was a vocal advocate for federal de-scheduling of healthcare, and the legalization of cannabis which could lead to the citizenship for undocumented immigrants and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. She is best known for her pointed questions of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings.
